Airbus Group Innovations

Airbus Group Innovations – the Airbus Group network of research facilities, scientists, engineers and partnerships – is at the forefront of research and technology. Airbus Group Innovations fosters technological excellence and business orientation through the sharing of competences and means between the three Divisions of the Airbus Group (Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space and Airbus Helicopters) and develops and maintains partnerships with world-famous schools, universities and research centres.

In the AMAZE project, Airbus Group Innovations provided inputs and requirements for AM components selected from new satellite platforms based in Invar and for AM components selected from aircraft application. Airbus were heavily involved in component design, re-design and free material optimisation, applying automated topology optimisation methods to redesign conventional parts to minimise weigh and manufacturing cost. For the Invar development and testing, metallographic analysis, static mechanical testing and thermal expansion measurements were carried out through APOD 15.
